Hello, my name is Peter and I have been a Radio Amateur since 2007

My station call sign is

2E0WEP

You maybe wondering that me being a Radio Amateur, what is meant by the name of my web site?

'Internet Propagation'

Before I came into the hobby I used my computer to talk to the world using a program called 'Teamspeak', and another member on the server that I used, was already a Radio Ham and we got talking about the hobby, this got my curiosity going.  I have to admit that I was already a SWL (short wave listener) as I owned a Realistic DX394 at the time, but I had no idea of how to join in with the world wide hobby, never even thought about it, that was until 2006'

We recently made a new Teamspeak Server and it can be found by clicking on the link below:

So, I looked online, found a Ham Radio club local to me, times and dates of when it was running, and joined.  I have to say, my eyes were opened.  Being a SWL I thought that it was just 'CQ, DX, Contest, 5 and 9', little did I know the diversity of the hobby with the likes of Echolink, IRLP, and now DStar.

Although it's thought by many, myself  included, that this is not real Amateur Radio, it does give you access to the world.  Indeed, with Echolink, the basics you will need is a computer and a Radio Amateur licence to make contact.

Anyway I hope that has given you a little insight into the name of my web site.

Now for how and where I got onto the ladder.

The club that gave the first step in the hobby is the South Lancashire Radio Club where I sat and passed my Foundation Exam.

After passing my Foundation Exam I was eager to learn more so I decided to join another club as well as the one I had started with.  So I became a member of the North West Amateur Radio Club where I sat and passed the Intermediate Exam.

Digital Modes Interface Units

This cracking little interface is by Alan M0AQC. For details on this and more just visit

http://www.m0aqc.co.uk/index.htm

or send an email to:

Alanm0aqc@btinternet.com

I have this connected to my FT897 and to work DM780 you will have to go into C:\Programs\HamRadioDeluxe find DM780 and make a short cut to your desk top. Then, when you have it up, go into config and tick PTT through the com port that your interface is using.  To  use HRD i think you will need a CT-62 Lead into the CAT port on the back of the radio.  But doing this I need to use two ports on your PC.
